3G Internet Down For Hours On Thursday

If you couldn't connect with your 3G, either by cell phone or data card, you were not alone as the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) system was down between noon and 3pm on Thursday.

The disconnection was intermittent for the three hours, one moment it was fine, the next no connection.

Elberth Duran, spokesperson for ICE, explained that a power failure at the Paso Ancho plant caused the failure of the mobile internet over the 3G network.

Although ICE claims to have resolved the problem in less than 30 minutes, users experienced problems with connection for hours.

ICE says that it is owed some ¢1.1 billion colones by customers who bought into the 3G payment plan that included high end telephones. The state institution now requires new customers to provide some proof of ability to pay, in the past all it required is a deposit ¢12.500 (us$23) and the promise to pay.
